Skincare for men is big business in Asia, moreso than the West where we’re traditionally more body (rather than face) conscious.

As a result, men’s ranges from Asia tend to be a lot more developed than their overseas counterparts.

Formulas are more advanced and, most noticeably, they have a lot more targeted products – specifically for anti ageing and brightening. Most Asian men’s lines include serums, toners, lotions, eye creams and BB Creams (a tinted moisturiser of sorts) as standard.

I often review Asian skincare here (from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan…) and a lot of you ask me where to buy similar products without paying ridiculous shipping fees. The answer’s easy; give Lab Series a shot.

Above: A small selection of BB Creams for men, the only one available in the West is the Lab Series BB Tinted Moisturiser – it also happens to be my favourite (followed by the yellow Laneige one).

Over the past year, Lab Series have been launching a slew of products which have a strong Eastern influence. I’ve already waxed lyrical about their BB Cream so today I’m looking at 3 products in their new MAX LS anti-ageing range.

MAX LS Daily Renewing Cleanser – A thick, creamy cleanser that leaves skin looking clean and clear. Unlike traditional soapy cleansers, this product doesn’t dry the skin out at all – in fact, even after rinsing/drying your skin will feel moisturised.

Application tip: If you have the time, this product is designed to give you a deeper clean if you massage it into your skin for 3-4 minutes before rinsing. Try it in the shower, you’ll notice an immediate difference.

MAX LS Skin Recharging Water Lotion – This is a hydrating liquid much like the lotions in Asian skincare ranges. Unlike a toner, this product is multi-purpose (balancing skin pH and removing dead skin cells) and leaves skin feeling really well moisturized. So much so that, with my oily skin, I can use this alone without moisturiser afterwards if I’m being lazy.

Application tip: soak a circular cotton wool pad in this liquid, split in half and apply under your eyes as an eye mask. After 10 minutes your eyes will look de-puffed and invigorated.

MAX LS Age-Less Face Cream – The star product from the range; if you’re concerned with ageing skin, try using this thick moisturiser at night. It leaves your skin looking rested and refreshed every morning. Sustained use leaves your skin looking even and plumps out fine lines. I also found that this works incredibly well at calming shaving rash/burn overnight.

Application tip: to get the most out of this product, apply immediately after the Water Lotion or – if you don’t have that – onto damp skin post-shower.

I’m mighty impressed with this new range from Lab Series and can’t wait to see how it develops over the next few years. I’m wondering whether they’ll continue with this inspiration and launch a few other products you often see in Asian grooming ranges like blotting sheets, face masks and a dedicated skin brightening product. Keep your eyes on this range, folks!
