What’s the problem?

Your face (usually the cheeks and nose) look very red, whether you’re embarrassed or not.

Quick Fixes

If you want to tame redness quickly, try a tinted product to mask the colour. There are lots of undetectable ones like Perfekt Skin Perfection gel – this is weightless and undetectable on skin. Just massage one pump into your skin and neck.

Other than that, try to avoid spicy food and alcohol wherever possible.

Skincare Solutions

Redness-prone skin loves Zinc so try to get some into your skincare somewhere (suggestions below). In addition to that, using Salicylic Acid in your skincare should help to tame redness caused by skin reactions.

Niacinamide is another ingredient to keep an eye out for in your skincare as it strengthens skin over time.

When cleansing your skin, opt for a non-foaming cleanser like Cetaphil that won’t aggravate your skin.

If the redness is extreme or you can’t seem to shift it no matter what you try, ask your doctor or dermatologist about Metrogel and Finacea. Both are medicated creams designed to alleviate the condition.

Recommended Products

  • Cetaphil Cleanser – The ‘vanilla’ of cleansers, it cleans skin and nothing else. No foam, no fragrance – perfect for reactive skin.
  • Sudocrem – It’s a thick, paste-like cream that’s rich in Zinc. You won’t want to wear this during the day but massage a small amount into red areas at night to see them calm and even by morning. Stupidly cheap too!
  • Avene Antirougeurs Jour Redness Relief Moisturising Cream – This soothing cream comes in normal/oily or dry/very dry variants.
  • Elta MD Clear – This sunscreen is light enough to use daily and contains two brilliant ingredients for redness; niacinamide and zinc.
  • DermaQuest ZinClear – Another Zinc-based day cream, this is very light and pleasant to use.
  • Etat Pur Vitamin PP – A niacinamide serum that you can use daily before moisturiser. Daily use soothes and strengthens skin.
  • Paula’s Choice 2% BHA liquid – splash a little of this liquid into your hands and massage into your skin twice a day. It calms inflammation, redness and – as a bonus – prevents spots and ingrowns.

I have suffered from rosacea and acne scars since my teens. My girlfriend suggested I try skin perfection gel because it is invisible on the skin. I have to say, my skin has NEVER looked better than this! My acne scars look like they have been photo shopped and my redness has completely vanished. The product is colored and it scared me at first however it is invisible on my skin and it does not transfer!
