Review: Roger & Gallet Fleur d’Osmanthus

Today’s fragrance is a bit of an odd one, Roger & Gallet is launching Fleur d’Osmanthus in April. The fragrance is based on the Chinese osmanthus flower, “the true scent of happiness”.

Notes include mandarin, orange peel, grapefruit, neroli, osmanthus, tonka bean, sandalwood and benzoin.

So I was a bit wary when this landed on my desk. I don’t really do floral scents…

However it was pretty much love at first whiff. Fleur d’Osmanthus is a light, zesty floral fragrance with a nice, deep base of tonka and sandalwood. It’s floral, for sure, but it’s not powdery or too girly. Who’d wear it? Well it’d be nice if you’re spending a day lying on the grass in Hyde Park – not if you’re wearing a business suit (unless you work where I do!).

Bit cautious about florals? I have it on very good authority (Mr. Dove) that Churchill wore floral fragrances daily so you’re in good company!

Now (not sure if this outs me as a fragrance philistine) I had no idea who Roger & Gallet were before being sent this fragrance. Turns out they have a pretty interesting history which you can take a look at by clicking the pic below.
