Review: Tom Ford Tuscan Leather
Tuscan Leather is the best-selling scent from the ‘Private Blend’ fragrance collection by unofficial SCforM mascot and all round stylish-dude Tom Ford. This has fast become my favourite fragrance of the year, here’s why:
“Private blend is my own scent laboratory: it’s where I have the ability to create very special, original fragrances that are unconstrained by the conventions of mainstream scent-making. Private blend is designed with the true fragrance connoisseur in mind.” – Tom Ford.
The Tom Ford Tuscan Leather scent evokes a raw, yet reserved take on a classic leather scent. Tuscan Leather opens with notes of saffron and thyme, providing a warm rendition of leather that intermingles with hints of raspberry. A provocative chypre blend of olibanum and jasmine forms a centre of rich, smoked spices and herbs. The authenticity of the leather deepens as it picks up the woody base of amberwood for a rich, sensual finish.
This really is a full-on leather scent once you spray it on; it’s like a leather chair sitting in a room full of tobacco and spice. Like… an old study or an old-school gentleman’s club. It sounds odd (possibly unpleasant) but honestly, it’s fantastic. It’s very unique; rich, smoky, spicy and complex. Now if that sounds a bit too heavy and musky, you’ll be glad to know that those ‘hints of rasberry’ in the description really do come through so that the fragrance actually dries down to quite a sweet scent that stops this from being too heavy or ‘old man’. Oh and one spritz will last you an entire day. Like I said, brilliant!
When to wear this? I’d say Tom Ford Tuscan Leather is an evening/winter scent because of all that leather, smoke and spice. It smells expensive (which it is!) and it’s certainly not generic. Don’t expect to wear this and not have people comment on what you’re wearing!
Overall I’d say that if you’re a fan of fragrance and you’re looking for something that’s a step up from the usual department store fare – Tom Ford Tuscan Leather might be night up your street. If you’re in to smoky, spicy, woody or sweet scents – run, don’t walk, to check this one out! I’m already scoping out my next Private Blend fragrance…
Oh and if you want to go all out this Christmas, there’s a Tuscan Leather Collection that is exclusively available from Selfridges stores now and all Private Blend counters from 1st February 2011.
This unique luxury collection contains a 250ML Tuscan Leather decanter, 100ML Tuscan Leather spray, Tuscan Leather scented candle, Private Blend atomizer and funnel on a collectible Private Blend Makassar style tray.
A real collector’s item. This will be mine one day…
Go try in-store or buy online and tell me how it goes!

How not to look like this:

Extremely interesting article post. Your article is extremely interesting. I enjoyed this article. This blog post is good! I have to say that after continually reading terrible as in, same old material, little quality content, etc. article posts on other sites, it’s nice to actually read something that has some thought put into it. It’s a pleasure to read well written blog posts, especially after continually seeing rehashed %$!# that writers and bloggers are putting out nowadays. It’s always nice when I come across content that actually has value, I’ve been seeing a ton of subpar writing attempts recently. Anyhow, thanks again and I’ll check back regularly to see what else you have to offer. I’ll check back in the future to see what else you have up your sleeve. Keep up the fine work! BTW, I like your site design, but your header image was only loading half way for me. P.S. Your header is messed up a bit in IE. The problem could be on my end but I thought you might want to look into that.
