Review: Soap & Glory Eau Man
Speedy review today of a fantastic fragrance find (try saying that a few times after a glass of wine…). Now you know I didn’t like the Soap & Glory grooming line at all so I was pleasantly surprised when their first men’s fragrance ‘Eau Man‘ landed on my desk.
It comes packaged in a study, heavy, brushed silver flask – it doesn’t look cheap at all (and at £15, it’s pretty cheap). As for the scent – you may have guessed from the image – it smells almost exactly like the Jean Paul Gaultier cult fragrance ‘le Male’. It’s the same musky mixture of vanilla and bergamot that you either love or hate. Millions love it, I can’t say i’m a huge fan myself but it’s obviously very popular with a lot of guys!
Is it exactly the same? No. ‘Eau Man’ smells a little bit lighter than ‘le Male’ – that’s something I personally prefer since it’s not as cloying as the JPG one. However, for all intents and purposes – it’s almost the same thing. I will say that the wear on this is not as good as the Jean Paul Gaultier fragrance – it’s not as concentrated so it’ll wear off faster.
All that said, if you’re a fan of Jean Paul Gaultier le Male or you’re looking to buy someone an affordable fragrance that smells expensive – be sure to check out Soap & Glory Eau de Man at your local Boots. I’d say it was a pretty nice gift idea if you’re looking to buy someone their first fragrance this Christmas. It’s miles ahead of similarly priced stuff you’ll find at the moment.
Right so, now that we’re done with the review, a question for all you lovely readers – do you think it’s okay to create a scent that’s so close to another on the market? Personally I don’t really mind – I think Soap & Glory Eau Man teaches us two things:
1. A fragrance needn’t be expensive to smell good.
2. When you’re paying a larger amount of money, most of the time it’s because of the slightly more subtle parts of a fragrance like how long it lasts and how it dries down. That and a label.
So, all things considered, it’s a keeper!
