Review: Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Hydrating Treatment Mask
Ahh my winter saviour! Most masks are designed to clear clogs which also happens to dry out all the natural oil in your skin. Fine in the summer but they can leave skin feeling tight, dry and shiny in the winter. The Paula’s ChoiceSkin Recovery Hydrating Treatment Mask is the complete opposite. It’s rich, creamy and incredibly moisturising – all in a simple base that shouldn’t irritate the most sensitive, wind-chapped skin.
Drench your skin in this lush, emollient-rich moisture treatment for an incredibly soft and radiant feel. This unique blend of rich plant oils, plant- and vitamin-based antioxidants, and essential fatty acids and lipids give dry skin just what it needs to replenish itself. Can be used as a mask or an intense moisturizer.
- Reduces inflammation and irritation
- Rinses easily from the skin
- 100% fragrance-free
Honestly, there isn’t much to say about this other than it does exactly what it lists on the label. The formula contains a large amount of moisturisers, emolliants and oils that give it an incredibly rich and moisturising texture. The addition of antioxidants leave your skin looking bright and refreshed once you rinse this off. It’s rich but it isn’t full of unnecessary fillers and fragrant oils like most moisturising masks – your best shot if you have sensitive or acne prone skin.
15 minutes of this face mask and my red, dry skin looks and feels incredibly soft, full of moisture, bright and even in tone. This is perfect for days when you have dry or ‘tight’ skin, red skin, on airplane journeys and even if you’ve overdone it with the shaving and left your skin both dry and irritated.
There are a number of different ways you can use this too:
- For 15 to 30 minutes, then rinse and follow with moisturiser.
- Apply a layer to your skin and leave it on overnight.
- Apply a thin layer over your moisturiser overnight.
- Use it as a regular face cream if you have incredibly dry skin. Great if you’re dry thanks to medication like Accutane.
Little tip: Here’s how to get the most of this mask; take a hot shower, exfoliate your skin and then apply this immediately once out of the shower to damp skin. Apply a fair amount and then rinse off after half an hour, following up with your favourite moisturiser.
This comes highly recommended, you can even buy a sample for next-to-nothing before you buy the full sized tube!

Another winner from Paula! Her products are no nonsense and do what they say they’ll do. Thank you for helping spread the good word.
Yes…I completely agree with these comments. Paula’s Choice products might be “no nonsense” but they are by no means “Lo Tech”. They often contain more anti-oxidants, skin-communicants and skin-identicals than the so-called “miracle” creams.
The Hydrating Treatment Mask is a winner.
I am also trying some of the new RESIST line at the moment – amazing.
