Review – Vichy Liftactiv Retinol Night HA

LIFTACTIV RETINOL HA NA NOC Review Vichy Liftactiv Retinol Night HA

Finally – a good, widely available retinol option in the UK (wordwide too)! Let’s talk anti-ageing, shall we?

Total wrinkle plumping care with triple dose Hyaluronic Acid and Retinol + A1 to fight all 3 types of wrinkles: permanent, reversible and programmed.

- Plumping effect visible from the 1st morning2
- With triple dose Hyaluronic Acid for a deeper, more stabilized filling action and Retinol + A1 for an accelerated skin resurfacing effect
- Patented double-gelled-phase formulation technique provides moisturizing and nourishing yet light and smooth texture
- Suitable for sensitive skin, tested under dermatological control, allergy-tested
- Formulated with soothing & fortifying Vichy Thermal Spa Water

As discussed ad-nauseum on SCforM, retinol is one of the select few ingredients proven to reverse the look of wrinkles and sun-induced ageing. Now, the amount of retinol in this isn’t listed but it’s a mild amount (I assume comparable to RoC and Neutrogena equivalents) and it contains 3 times as much as the day version of this cream.

The amount of retinol in this makes it a fantastic product to use as your very first product containing retinol, although you may want to switch to something stronger (like the offerings from Skinceuticals and Green Cream) when your wrinkles are no longer just fine lines but deeper wrinkles.

As a sidenote, I wouldn’t recommend using anything containing Retinol during the day – the sunlight will deactivate it. So that means avoid the Day Cream, it’s not as strong anyway.

The best thing about this product is that, in addition to containing Retinol, it’s also a fantastic hydrating night cream. Dry skin can make fine lines and wrinkles look a hell of a lot worse than they really are. The combination of oils, shea butter and hyaluronic acid (which attracts water to the skin) leaves your skin fully hydrated; making it look instantly plump and healthy. Despite being so moisturising, it isn’t particularly thick (more like a firm lotion) so it should work for most skintypes.

On to pros and cons!

Pros

  • Well packaged so the ingredients stay fresh and effective. You push the nozzle to the side to get product out.
  • Deeply hydrating which instantly makes the skin look smoother and less wrinkled. You wake up to skin that looks really well moisturised and healthy.
  • A good amount of retinol, making it a perfect choice for your first anti-ageing cream.
  • Nice texture that sinks in quickly.

Cons

  • At around £30 it’s not cheap and Neutrogena does a decent alternative in the US. However, if you live in Europe – it’s worth it.
  • May not be good for acne-prone skin since it is quite moisturising.

All in all, a nice find and I’d recommend it if you’re becoming serious about anti-ageing and are looking for your first anti-wrinkle cream. Incidentally, I wouldn’t recommend buying the ‘Day’ version since firstly it’s weaker and secondly, daylight reduces the efficacy of Retinol.

Can this be used as an undereye treatment as well, or should it be used under a specific under-eye moisturizer?
