Highly recommended – La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo
So a few weeks ago I came across an amazing product that’s pretty much a must-try for a broad range of skin-types and issues. It’s called Effaclar Duo by the french skincare brand La Roche Posay:
EFFACLAR DUO is a complete skincare solution that combines 4 active ingredients to act on the 2 major signs of skin with imperfections :
Severe local imperfections. Niacinamide and Piroctone Olamine helps to purify the skin and protect against breakouts developing.
Sebum-blocked pores. The LHA/Linoleic Acid combination to help unclog pores by eliminating dead cells, responsible for their obstruction.
These active ingredients are combined with soothing and anti-irritating La Roche-Posay thermal spring water. Mattifying and moisturizing cream-gel. Refreshing and non-greasy.
This very light, mattifying gel-moisturiser contains a high amount of niacinamide as well as decent amounts of salicylic acid and other de-clogging ingredients. This is a fantastic combination of ingredients and unique as far as I can tell.
So what kind of results can you expect?
- Gradual lightening and evening out of skintone (including acne scars) used in conjunction with daily sunscreen. That’s thanks to the niacinamide.
- A reduction in clogged pores, blackheads and breakouts thanks to the combination of de-clogging ingredients and niacinamide.
- Decent oil control, which means this may be a bit drying on you if you have dry skin. You can always follow up with another moisturiser though.
- Calmer skin that’s less red/irritated, again thanks to the niacinamide as well as zinc and salicylic acid. Great if red skin is an issue for you.
- Lastly, this is a really fantastic find if you shave often. It should prevent ingrown as well as heal your skin in between shaves so that shaving on consecutive days isn’t as irritating.
So if you have issues with any of the above, I highly recommend trying this out. It’s pretty cheap (£12 in the UK from Boots), well formulated and effective to boot! Definitely one the best products i’ve come across this year.

Hi,
This review came just in time. I just saw this product online yesterday and was thinking of buying it, but I wasn’t sure how to use it. I mean, is this a moisturizer replacement ? does it moisturize enough ? should I use it everyday ? Is it good enough as a night moisturizer ?
As you can see, I’m a bit confused regarding the aim(s) of this product.
Any suggestions ?!

It’s a moisturiser replacement if you have combination to oily skin and you should use it everyday to see the best results.
As for whether it’s moisturising enough, you’ll have to be the judge of that. If your skin feels dry or tight the day after using this (or just generally while you’re using it) then you’ll probably need to use a moisturiser on top. I use this on it’s own at night and under sunscreen during the day.

Is it okay to apply this stuff after a treatment such as a BHA during the day or would it be a bit too much? Or would it be best to just use this as a moisturizer/treatment combo.

It depends on how sensitive your skin is and what condition your skin’s in. On paper, there’s nothing wrong with doing that. If you have minimal/mild acne, this should be enough on its own. If not, you can use a BHA solution (like stridex pads) beforehand.
The only way to tell is to try it for a week and see how you go!

You remember that I am testing Effaclar duo, right? When I started using it, I was a bit of acne. Do not know if because of the product, but it emerged several new bones, sucked!

Also, I have to apply a prescribed gel for my rosacea at night. Should I apply Effaclar Duo before or after?

Hi Lucas! I’d apply this after shaving in the morning and consult your doctor about using it at night!
Great product! I’ve been using this for a little longer than a month and, with the regular use of sunscreen, my acne scars are almost gone! I haven’t had a pimple for quite a while too.

does this have a chance of purging? I just bought it and little bumps are coming up on my chin which I don’t normally get!
