Review – Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
The Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant is one of the ‘Hero’ products from the Dermalogica line and one of my all-time favourite products.
Soooo… what is it?
What does it do? This is a very gentle exfoliating cleanser intended to be used every day (or once every two days). Mix the powder with a bit of water in your palm and it turns into a lightly foaming paste which you can then scrub into your skin. Lighty massage it in for about 30 to 60 seconds before rinsing.
Who needs it? Anybody who doesn’t want to use a grainy face scrub but still wants smooth, flake-free skin. This is great for acne-prone skin because it gently whisks away any flaky bits from drying acne treatments without irritating your skin. It also contains oatmeal and salicylic acid (BHA) which helps to sooth blemishes and redness (good if you have Rosacea).
If you have dry skin, this is great because you can get rid of the flaky patches on your skin every day without irritating your skin through over-exfoliaton. Not only that, it allows your moisturisers to penetrate deeper into your skin afterwards. Ladies may want to note that it makes your foundation go on much smoother too.
Finally I find that it’s perfect if you shave daily and want to exfoliate before shaving – this frees trapped hair to ensure a close shave without irritating your skin further (you don’t want to use a grainy scrub if you’re shaving every day, it’ll strip your skin and hurt like hell). Basically this cleanser is a good all-rounder, i’d recommend everyone to try it out if they can!
Results! Used regularly, the exfoliating action (scrubbing granules and enzymes) really does smooth and soften your skin. Skin looks brighter because you’re continually buffing away dead skin and it both prevents and doesn’t aggravate any redness/breakouts.
Overall This is a fantastic exfoliating cleanser and pretty unique in it’s method of action I think. It provides all the benefits of exfoliating your skin, plus a few calming and anti-blemish functions – all in a formula that won’t irritate your skin even if you use it every day. If you like the idea of daily exfoliation (or if you need a gentle exfoliant) with some other good stuff thrown in – definately give this a shot!

Ooooh! I was actually thinking of buying this! So many people rave about it…
Should I use this if I use Paula’s 2%BHA liquid, alternating with my Avene Diacneal at night? Exfoliate once a week?
Thanks!
PS: Dil! I double-dare you to use/review this!

I really enjoy this website. It’s about time that there was a comprehensive men’s skin care site. I also want to take care of my skin and keep looking young as long as I can!
I’m using a variety of Japanese/Korean products so it’s interesting to see the products that I don’t have much knowledge of.
I’ve heard good things about Dermalogica so I might try this. Still, I was wondering if you were going to review three similar products and see which one you liked best. They are:
DHC Washin Powder
Komenuka Bijin Cleansing Powder Facial Care
Kanebo Suisai Beauty Clear Enzyme Cleansing Powder
Keep the reviews coming. I love reading them!
@Jen – Hahah I’ve been meaning to give this a shot but didn’t know of a UK retailer (impatient), consider it bought and ready to review in a week or so!
@Lee – Thanks for reading, I’ll definitely take a look at those for my Asian Skincare series!
