My first electric shaver – Braun MobileShave.
I make no bones about the fact that i’m slightly afraid of electric shavers, they look too much like epilators for my liking and i’m afraid they’re going to yank the hairs out of my face. No thanks.
However, after researching and writing my Beginner’s Guide to Electric Shavers I was game to trying one and ended up giving the Braun MobileShave M60 a go.
You don’t have to fear your afternoon beard shadow any longer. With Braun’s new MobileShave it’s easy and convenient to restore a freshly groomed appearance whenever and wherever you need to look your best.
The convenient and handy MobileShave is your perfect grooming friend outside home. Thanks to its compact size and powered by 2 AA batteries it can easily be used at work, in the car, or even on short holiday trips.
MobileShave is Braun‘s smallest electric shaver, but does not compromise on superior technology, reliable quality or sleek design you expect from Braun. It’s a must have shaving tool for any man who wants or needs to look great all day long.
I decided the MobileShave would be best for my first tangle with one since the only time I’m likely to use an electric shaver would be if I needed to have a, well… mobile shave. Plus it’s a clever enough idea; judging by the emails I get – prolonging a shave is probably one of the most common grooming dilemmas for guys. Probably for those who start their days early and end late at night (lucky them!).
- It didn’t snag any hairs! In fact it gave me quite a decent shave. Not as close as wet shaving but passable, for sure.
- Zero irritation – no redness and no sensitive skin. Even with multiple passes on the same spot (more on that in ‘cons’).
- Washable. It also has a handy little brush attatched to the end to clean it properly.
- It’s fully portable, the size of a chunky cellphone and battery life is decent (about 45mins). You can use it in a (parked) car or at work if your beard tends to grow back at an alarmingly fast rate.
- It has an auto lock! This may not seem important to you but I can’t even count the amount of times the disembodied buzzing of my electric toothbrush in my bag has caused major embarrassment. At least this won’t be mistaken for a sex toy at work.
- You have to go over areas a fair few times before you’re clean shaven or you risk having errant long hairs all over your face. I’m not sure if that’s a problem with all electric shavers but I kind of expected it all to come off on the first pass.
- The shave isn’t as close as wet shaving. This gives you a nice clean look but obviously it’s not as good as a wet shave. I’m willing to let that slide though, it does an amazing job for what it is.
- Batteries! Okay I understand that batteries are definitely a wise option since they make the device truly portable (as long as you have batteries) but I would love if there was a rechargeable version. Then again Procter and Gamble (who own both Braun and Duracell) may not agree with my pro-rechargeble stance!
All in all i’d say that my experiences with the Braun MobileShave M60 (and electric shaving in general) were mostly positive. If you’re looking to buy your first electric shaver – or just want a quick way to shave – I’d highly recommend this one. It’s relatively cheap (£17.99 at Argos in the UK), it works well and you can buy replacement parts on the Braun website. SCforM recommended!
