I recently went to Selfridges (London) to have a chat with the ladies of Blink Brow Bar, a pioneer of walk-in brow bars. The premise is simple; walk in during your shopping trip, lie down, get your brows shaped and leave. You can even have a massage if you’re so inclined!
The most interesting thing is the method of hair removal employed by Blink, it’s called threading. To those who don’t know, threading is an Indian method of hair removal which uses a length of twisted cotton to pluck out entire rows of hairs. This means hair removal is quick, very precise and it has none of the potentially irritating aspects of waxing (such as tearing off skin). The image below is of a woman having her brows threaded, you get the general idea…
Threading is my preferred method of hair removal, I follow the exact steps listed in my Brow Tutorial but I have the areas threaded instead of plucked. The reason I prefer threading as opposed to a brow wax is that it’s a lot less finite. The change in your brows is done in stages so you can always ask the technician to do more or less as they go. With waxing it’s one quick pull and then you’re stuck with the shape they’ve chosen for you.
Of all it’s clientele, Blink Brow Bar gets around 20 to 30% male customers and the amount is growing by the day. Guys come in by themselves, with mothers, sisters, girlfriends… The most popular hair removal area is obviously the brows, with the tops of cheekbones coming in a close second. They even have a large amount of men coming in for lash and brow tints, definitely one to take a look at if you’re not loving grey eyebrows.
Now i’ve been to a fair few places to have my brows threaded and Blink is definitely one of the best. Why?
All in all, I’d say Blink Brow Bar is a fantastic place to visit if you’re interested in having your brows professionally shaped. They’re efficient, they pay attention to detail and they really do know how to shape the perfect pair of eyebrows. Even if you don’t go to Blink, eyebrow threading in general is just a fantastic method for eyebrow grooming and lightyears ahead of waxing and plucking: it’s quick, it looks very natural, it doesn’t irritate the skin and there’s a much smaller risk of you leaving the place looking like a wally.
Thumbs up for Blink Brow Bar!
