Shiseido Adenogen – Does it work?

idx 000 Shiseido Adenogen Does it work?

The grooming world has been buzzing with talk of Shiseido’s Adenogen treatment, formulated to restore and rethicken men’s hair.

It sounds like a fantastic treatment but does it work or is this – like a lot of hair growth treatments – just a £55 bottle of BS ?

Well, read on to find out!

So what has Shiseido got to say about Adenogen?

Extraordinary strides in the scientific understanding of hair growth has led Shiseido to engineer Adenosine, a phenomenally effective Shiseido-exclusive bio-ingredient that directly benefits your hair’s healthy look. Naturally occurring as a component of DNA, Adenosine is bio-compatible to deliver quick, definite and unprecedented results.

The success of this new product in promoting hair growth is down to Adenosine, which has proven effective in 94.1% of test subjects in clinical studies* who showed a 23%-34% average increase in the thickness of hairs in the thinning scalp area.

Massaged into the scalp, Adenogen Hair Energizing Formula improves the scalp’s microcirculation and can help enhance oxygen delivery to the roots, to restore hair’s natural vitality, thickness and healthy sheen.

And does it work? Well, like a lot of things, it’s a disappointing ‘yes and no’.

Shiseido Adenogen is based around the ingredient Adenosine which is a nucleoside that is naturally present in cells and seems to play a key role in hair growth.

Clinical double-blind studies (sponsored by Shiseido) have shown that ‘Adenosine improved hair loss in Japanese women by stimulating hair growth and by thickening hair shafts. Adenosine is useful for treating female pattern hair loss in women as well as androgenetic alopecia in men.’

This was after a promising study on all-male participants which showed that ’9 out of 10 men aged between 30 to 50 saw an improvement in hair thickness after using Shiseido Adenogen for 6 months’.

Sounds promising, right?

However that same study also found that ‘topical adenosine was proven to considerably thicken vellus hair but it could not change hair density’.

Basically this means that while Adenosine may be able to thicken hair you already have and keep it fixed to your scalp for longer, it won’t be able to create new hair where there wasn’t any hair before. So, if you have thin hair, thinning hair or very fine vellus or ‘baby’ hair that you’d like to thicken up – this may be worth a shot. However,  if you’re expecting to grow hair on bald patches you may as well skip this and perhaps pursue other avenues of hair growth like the ones discussed here and here.

The science behind this treatment is sound but we’ll have to wait for more consumer reviews before we decide whether or not the Shiseido formula provides all the benefits it promises. A general scan of the few (independent) reviews online at the moment seem mainly positive, indicating that it does indeed strengthen and thicken existing hair.

The Andenogen formula is a Shiseido exclusive so if you want to try this, you’re going to have to fork out the £55 ($68) to try it. Each bottle contains 150ml (5oz) and i’m not sure how long this’ll last but bear in mind you’re going to have to use this for at least 6 months in order to see the best results. Whether that’s worth it is entirely up to you!

I’m going to try and get my hands on this and test it on someone with thin/balding hair but until then – have you used Shiseido Adenogen? If you have, please leave a comment below with your experience and opinion!

yes ive heard about this adenogen, haven’t got my hands on it tho. but im planning to do so (maybe). i am a 23 y.o girl with balding crown — depressing, i know.
i did some google but haven’t stumbled upon enough review, so i kinda back and forth about puttin’ adenogen on buying list.
some guy @ local forum said that he has a friend and she has shiny, thick hair even after given birth to her 3rd child. and that happens because she uses adenogen. she told her balding husband about using it too, and it worked magic on him as well.
so here i am, drooling over the story but gotta do some further thinking about spending that much $$$.
