Q&A session!
I’ve been getting a lot of questions via formspring recently so I thought I would start answering some of them on SCforM for everyone else to read.
I’ll still be answering some on Twitter but i’ll save the more frequently asked ones for the blog. Remember you don’t need an account to ask me a question so click and ask away!
Righty, let’s do it.
Moisturiser, then sunscreen. If you have oily skin you can just skip the moisturiser entirely.
First, read this to try and get rid of it. Exfoliate and moisturise it first, especially if you’re using drying zit treatments on it. Then apply a small dab of skin coloured concealer on it using your ring finger. Keep patting it in, moving in a small circle, until the concealer has blended with your skin. I highly recommend going to a MAC counter and picking up a pot of Studio Finish concealer – they get a lot of male clients and that way you’ll be getting a good quality product that matches your skin perfectly.
You can also use a green tinted concealer instead which will get rid of the red tones without covering up the actual pimple. It won’t look green if you use a small amount, you can find green concealers in any drugstore.
I would recommend using a cleanser at night, simply because you need to wash off the dirt and product from your face that accumulates during the day. In the mornings you can just splash a bit of water on your face and then use the wipes. Try a gentle non-foaming cleanser like Cetaphil or CeraVe.
Glad Diacneal is working for you! I have had two microdermabrasion sessions and they lessened the appearance of scars slightly but no more than products like the Olay microdermabrasion kit or even better the Dr Brandt Microdermabrasion in a Jar. One thing to note though, if you have it done – you’ll want to lay off products containing retinol and AHAs like Avene Diacneal a week before and after the treatment. Your dermatologist should tell you all that before your sessions though!
Thanks and I will! While I’m unsure of the scientifically proven internal benefits (will research that), I do think green tea makes an excellent facial toner. Just cool some down and splash it on!
Yes. Other toners may not contain the 2% concentration which makes those other two products so effective and also I find that those two are formulated without a lot of excess fillers, alcohol and fragrance – good for sensitive or acne prone skin.
I did a little run down of favourite cleansers which you’ll find on the ‘Useful Posts’ page in the navigation bar. I will, however, do another post with multiple recommendations for each skin type so keep an eye out for it!
Yes, I went from having rather bad cystic acne for about a year (just as I hit puberty) to moderate/mild acne through my teens. I will write an entire post about acne treatment options and my own experiences with it.
As a rule, serums go after toner (if you use one) and before moisturiser. Just apply it, wait a few seconds for it to dry down a bit then apply your moisturiser or sunscreen on top. Vitamin C serums are best used during the day underneath sunscreen as they boost your UV protection while treating the skin
That’s all for now, keep those questions coming by clicking on the link in the navigation bar!

Eye Treatments Part 2 - How to get rid of the bags under your eyes.
Great post! I really love Philosphys Microdelivery Peel System. It's like a microdermabrasion at home. Perfect.
And for more oily skins, I like Shiseido's lotions SPFs for face and body. They are lightweight and wont feel heavy on an oilier skin
