K-Y Jelly – The moisturiser you never knew you had!
Don’t look at me like that, you know you have a tube of this stuff lying around somewhere. Well it’s time to grab that tube lying in your drawer (on second thought, it might be better to buy a new one..) and put it to new use because, as it happens, K-Y Jelly is a fantastic moisturiser – especially for acne-prone skin!
Just hear me out on this one, I swear there’s some very good science behind it!
So before I start, let me repeat that i’m taking about regular old K-Y Jelly; not warming, tingling, flavoured, liquid, scented or any other variety. Just the plain old ‘oh my god what the hell is this doing in my parents’ cabinet?!’ kind.
Just for kicks, this is what K-Y has to say about their famous Jelly:
K-Y® Brand Jelly was the first personal lubricant created in 1919. It replaces personal moisture in a way that feels natural and helps enhance intimacy. K-Y® Brand Jelly is the #1 doctor recommended personal lubricant and can be used every day. This non-greasy formula rinses off easily for a pleasant experience.
Using K-Y Jelly as a moisturiser is a little trick that has been around for a while and it’s pretty well known amongst dermatologists and those who suffer from persistent acne. Used as a moisturiser, a small amount (massaged in well) will give your skin an excellent amount of hydration without being sticky or clogging pores at all. It also has a few other benefits too!
Let’s take a look at the ingredients: Water (Purified), Glycerin, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Chlorhexidine Gluconate, Gluconolactone, Methylparaben, Sodium Hydroxide
As you can see, it’s a very simple formulation (very few ingredients) which makes it perfect for picky, easily irritated or acne prone skin. Everything is simple and known to be non-comedogenic. The first three ingredients in the list moisturise the skin while the Chlorhexidine Gluconate is an antibacterial agent which is particularly good for treating breakouts. The Gluconolactone is chemically similar to AHAs but much milder, it has been shown to be beneficial in treating acne as well as sun damage!
All jokes and general weirdness aside, K-Y Jelly is a fantastic moisturiser if you’re acne prone or have sensitive, easily irritated skin. It’s a nice basic product that has a few added benefits to it, definately worth trying. It really is a hidden gem of a product so don’t be afraid to try it! Even if it doesn’t work out for you as a skincare product, i’m sure you can think of a way to use it…

Review: Dr Nick Lowe The Secret is Out Lifting Cream
Getting Ready for Christmas!
If it's safe enough to be applied on your meat and two veg, it should be safe enough to apply for your face!
LMAO! This post totally made my day! I'm definitely game for trying this. I may wanna transfer the content into a different tube though…
Ingredients: Hydroxyethyl cellulose, propylene glycol, benzoic acid, sodium hydroxide, purified water
Would this work as well?
"HOWL"
Trust you!!! I have decided you must also be a fun person to go shopping with. Thanks for the recommendation yesterday…..Kiehls it is. As for this K-Y idea, I think I will suggest that to the spotty teenagers who live by me.
@GeekyEejit – Pretty sound logic, right?
@Connie – Please come back and let me know how it goes! That would work as a simple moisturiser but not as well as K-Y.
@Old Cow – I love that Kiehl's serum, probably one of the best buys I've made this year!
this gave me small tiny cosmetic acne ..
