 Interview with Youtubes gossmakeupartist
So as promised I managed to get an interview with Youtube Makeup-Guru gossmakeupartist and he very kindly agreed to a quick Q&A about men and cosmetics. I’ve posted one of his videos in my ‘Bronzer’ post so if you haven’t read it, check it out!

With how-to videos and video reviews, Wayne from gossmakeupartist has parlayed his formidable talent with makeup into one of the most successful channels on Youtube today. He graciously agreed to answer a few of my questions about Male Cosmetics which i’m sure my readers will find fascinating.

Firstly, thanks for granting this interview to my fledgling blog! I know you must have quite a busy schedule so let’s get to the questions…

So how long have you been a makeup artist?
I have been a makeup artist for about 10 years now, give or take.

Have you had much experience with applying makeup on men?
I do have male clients, but the ratio is slim around 85/15%. Male clients are just as interested in beautiful skin as women, they just want to look manly at the same time.

What do you think about the growing trend of men being unafraid to add a few cosmetics to their medicine cabinet?
I think its great. Providing it doesn’t over take your life! I have known a few men who spend so long in the bathroom getting ready that it becomes a joke! Used wisely make up for men can enchance you.

What’s the main thing men should keep in mind when buying and using cosmetics?
Never erase your face. Never put something heavy on. The ligher the coverage the better. As most men want that healthy look – bronzer is a must. A good, basic matte bronzer is the best bet with perhaps a little concealer under the eyes.

Now in one of your videos you kindly answered some questions regarding men being embarassed buying cosmetics in-store (readers: I recommend it!). Could you give some pointers to my readers who buy their cosmetics online? What’s the easiest way to identify the right shade for your skin tone?
That’s an interesting question! And a hard one to answer. If possible try and ask for testers (some companies actually do them). When buying a bronzer take into consideration your skin tone – light, medium or tan or dark. The main goal is to make sure it has no shimmer in. Matte is a mans friend. Concealer should be peach/pink based to deal with under eye circles. Sadly, at the moment of writing only a few places sell these (concealers) and they are female based companies. Bobbi brown, and Eve Pearl are the two best companies for under eye concealers with a peach/pink base.

If you’re still unsure, e-mail the company and tell them your skin colour and most often they will help you out. After all, you are the customer.

What would you recommend a complete cosmetics novice to buy first?
Bronzer. Concealer. Thats it. You can get by with these two things easy. Oh, and sunscreen.

Which makeup products should every man try at least once?
Mineral makeup. For a guy, it can look completely natural while giving your skin the look of bare great skin.

What’re your favourite makeup products for men and why?
Peach concealer. When you get rid of the dark circles under the eye if can really open up the face.
Also, lining the upper eyelashes (pull your eyelid up – the skin that connects the eyelashes) can really give the impression of dark lashes without making you look like you have anything on them.

Do you have any other final tips/tricks and pointers for men buying cosmetics?
Dont’ be afraid or ashamed. Ever. You’re paying them, remember. And if you really can’t do it – lie. Tell them its for your mother or sister and just tell them her skin colouring is the same as yours!

Well those are all the questions I have so thank you very much for taking the time out to answer them! Please keep reading SkinCareForMen!

Hiya – I really like your blog – it’s invaluable already!
Just weighing in to recommend Revlon’s newest foundation “Beyond Natural” – the one that goes from “white” to your skin tone. It’s easy enough to blend and get right for a guy. I’ve been using it for about 6 months as I managed to snag a bottle when I was in Aus before it launched here. Good even coverage and only 4 shades to pick from.

Men love Riversol products! No brutal fragrances are added and the key ingredient helps soothe irritated skin after shaving. I am telling you…their gel cleanser and light lotion have made a total difference on my skin! I recently received samples at the Film Festival in Vancouver, all the local celebrities are using this because their makeup artists are hooked! http://www.riversol.com is their site.
