Concealer is one of the few cosmetic products that is relatively popular amongst men, you can use it to conceal dark circles underneath your eyes when you haven’t had enough sleep and to conceal any blemishes you want to hide.

Now when you’re a guy wearing concealer, you have to remember that less is always better. It can be tempting to use your concealer to dot over ever imprefection you can see on your face but this is NOT the way to do it, a face full of flesh coloured bumps just screams concealer. Only use it on big spots or blemishes that are instantly noticeable, leave the smaller ones alone.

Now when buying a concealer for blemishes like spots or scars, I prefer the MAC Studio Sculpt Concealer.

This concealer comes in fuss-free packaging and is pigmented enough to cover up blemishes and creamy enough to blend into your skin seamlessly. I would recommend you go in-store to buy this because firstly, they will be able to find the perfect colour for you from their extensive colour range and secondly because concealor is commonly bought from MAC by both men and women so they’ll be able to help you without any embarassment. In fact a lot of MAC sales advisors are men so they’ll know what you want.

The MAC concealer is great because, unlike generic concealers that come in 3 or 4 shades, these come in about 20+ shades so that you know it’ll blend into your skin perfectly while looking natural. When apply concealer, swipe the tip of your finger lightly in the pot to pick up come product and then gently tap it into the blemish after applying moisturiser. Rapidly tap the product onto and around the blemish in order to perfectly blend it into your skin – you should not be able to see any concealer after you’re finished. If it looks a bit obvious either dust with powder or blot it with tissue.

Now when it comes to undereye circles I DON’T recommend the same product. If you apply a concealer underneath your eyes, it will look super-obvious to most people, an eye free of shadows looks unnatural. Instead I like the YSL Radiant Touch highlighter which comes in a ‘For Men’ silver tube.

Just click the end of the tube a few times and lightly dab a little bit of product undneath both eyes, not much at all. Then, using your ring ringer, blend the product underneath your eyes and swipe the excess on your eyelid. Don’t use too much or it will look overly done. The great thing about this product is that it highlights the under-eye area instead of concealing it. This means your eyes will look brighter and more awake without looking like they’ve got a coating of concealer underneath them. It;s the most natural-looking way to conceal under-eye circles. Remember to blot the eyes afterwards to pick up any excess product with a bit of tissue.

When buying this product remember that it comes in 3 shades. Number 1 for fair skin. Number 2 for medium skin and number 3 for darker, tanned skin. If you can’t find the shade in the L’Homme version, pick up the women’s version which comes in a gold tube,it’s the same thing.

Aaaand that’s how to conceal any blemishes, all the while looking natural. Remember that when concealing, don’t use too much product. Only conceal the major flaws and leave the smaller ones alone – you can gradually treat those with proper skin care. As you go further and futher into your skin care routine, you’ll find that you need to conceal less and less anyway!
